Basement Painting

Basement painting is a way to spruce up the basement area. Basement walls are part of your home's foundation. Therefore, they breathe and produce condensation, unlike other walls in your home. This unique trait is important because it affects how the paint adheres to the walls. Whether a basement is leaking or not, water can still pass through the porous concrete, stone, or poured concrete wall due to hydrostatic pressure. Moisture passes through the basement wall as hydrostatic pressure builds up behind the paint and can cause peeling, flaking, and discoloration. Basement waterproofing paints can reduce condensation, but they are not a permanent solution to basement water problems. Even structurally sound basement walls can absorb water from the soil and transfer it to the basement interior, making the walls feel wet. As the water from the walls evaporates, the air in the basement becomes more humid. A high-quality dehumidifier will help remove excess basement humidity, but the best long-term solution is waterproofing the walls.
